Neuroendocrine Tumors (NET) and Nuclear Medicine

چکیده
The term NET groups together different types of cancer that develop in various regions of the human body. They are born, in fact, by cells with characteristics partly similar to nerve cells ("neuro") partly similar to the endocrine ones, scattered almost everywhere in the human organism. So, some NET develop in endocrine glands (such as adrenals, pituitary gland and pancreas), while others affect other organs, such as bowel and lungs. The most frequent forms are born in the digestive tract that is the so-called GEP (gastro-entero-pancreatic) 2 . In the majority of cases, these tumors evolve slowly, but a minority of NET is very aggressive, as in the case of pheochromocytoma, paraganglioma or medullary thyroid cancer 3 .

Efficacy of Galium-68 DOTATATE PET/CT in the Detection of Metastasis Rate of Well-Differentiated Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors
Objective(s): The aim of this study was to determine metastasis rate in patients with well-differentiated grade1 (G1) and grade 2 (G2) gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP NETs) using the gallium-68 DOTATATE positron emission tomography/computed tomography (68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT). This study was also targeted toward investigating the relationship of maximum...
متن کاملBreast metastasis from the pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor origin detected by 99mTc-Octreotate scan
A 50 years old woman with history of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor diagnosed 2 years ago, which has not been surgically removed, was referred to our department for a 99mTc-Octreotate in order to evaluate the somatostatin receptor status. She was treated with regular sandostatin injections and chemotherapy. Her CT scan which was previously performed confirmed lung, adrenal and hepati...
متن کاملSomatostatin receptor imaging in patients with neuroendocrine tumors: not only SPECT?
In this issue of The Journal of Nuclear Medicine, Gabriel et al. (1) report their experience with 68Ga-labeled 1,4,7,10tetraazacyclododecane-N,N9,N99,N999tetraacetic acid-D-Phe1-Tyr3-octreotide (68Ga-DOTA-TOC) PET in a series of 84 patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NET). PET was more accurate with a higher detection rate than somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (using 111In-DOTA-TOC or 99mTc-...
متن کاملDiagnostic efficiency of 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT as compared to 99mTc-Octreotide SPECT/CT and conventional morphologic modalities in neuroendocrine tumors
Objective(s): In view of somatostatin receptor (SSR) expression on cell membranes of the majority of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), functional imaging exploiting analogs of SSR alongside the anatomical imaging is the mainstay of this diagnostic modality. In this prospective study, we assessed and directly compared the diagnostic parameters of 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT and 99...
متن کاملDevelopmental trends in targeted radionuclide therapy of neuroendocrine tumors
Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) constitute a heterogeneous group of neoplasms including carcinoids, pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, pituitary tumors, medullary thyroid carcinoma and phaeochromocytomas. The symptoms and the outcome of NETs differ considerably between patients depending on several factors. By labelling tracers with a radioisotope, the tracer acts as a ...
متن کاملPhysiologically Based Pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model for biodistribution of radiolabeled peptides in patients with neuroendocrine tumours
Objective(s): The objectives of this work was to assess the benefits of the application of Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models in patients with different neuroendocrine tumours (NET) who were treatedwith Lu-177 DOTATATE. The model utilises clinical data on biodistribution of radiolabeled peptides (RLPs) obtained by whole body scintigraphy (WBS) of the patients. Methods: The blood...
